End of November and thinking every day about my 2011 Apline Classic. I really love this event. It takes me to a place physically that I don't get to go at any other time of the year. I love training for it. I love that the family are coming with me this year for a week in Bright. But the memory of my first Alpine Classic, full of rookie mistakes, makes never to want to go back to 11 hours of heat stress and real difficulty getting up Mt Buffalo in the afternoon sun.
Therefore confidence equal kilometres in the legs. This Saturday was a big one and an important one in terms of upping the training and also getting some confidence psychologically that the body can do this stuff. 130kms using my traditional 113km route with a hill repeat of Kinglake thrown in. Just over 2000metres of climbing and done in a respectable but not lightening fast, 5 hours 10 minutes. As I was saying to my wife after the ride I was worried that this one would have me undone. But I am happy to day I was not too smashed. Still able to do some gardening in the afternoon and have some energy to play with the kids. This was a real confidence booster.
So the goal for the 2011 Alpine Classic - sub 9 hours. 20 mins off my 2010 time. Weighing currently 68 kgs (73kgs in 2010). Bike will not be loosing any weight from last years upgrade to the carbon TCR (7.5kgs). Next month will see a 145km version of the same ride - 2 hill repeats of Kinglake). Really nice ride mate. I like it a lot. I am VERY keen to try it with you one day. Certainly great prep ride for the Alpine. Do you ride on Saturdays with anyone else or is it all on your own. If I have to swap out to Saturday sometime we should head out together. Although in saying that, there aren't too many left before 9/1 which is when I'm heading up there (considering Christmas and all). Nice work. You'll smash the 200 if you keep this up consistently.
ReplyDeleteCheers mate. It would be awesome to do a Saturday ride with you sometime especially before the Alpine. We'll keep in touch. Consistancy is the challenge. Thanks for the encouragement.
