Last week was a tough week from a cycling perspective. Monday night I had a tacky throat. Initially I thought I was just a little over-tired. I woke the next morning with my glands the size of golf balls and I was struggling to swallow soggy Wheat-Bix. I was bummed because I had a week of warm commutes lined up and was looking forward to a solid week before hitting a 130km Healesville-Kinglake ride on Saturday. By the end of the day I made it to the doctor and had a packet of antibiotics filled. Between the shivering cold and the sweaty fever for the next 48 hours all I was really thinking about was how can I reshuffle my training to get the ks I wanted this month. Very selfish I now and a tad obsessive compulsive. Also praying hard under the covers that my wife didn't get it as I was basically useless as a parent for three days.
Well being in bed in between doses of Panamax, I did get inspired by some great you tube clips of preparing for European Sportifs and Italian Gran Fondos. These are epic recreational rides that are races against the clock and yourself, over some of the most amazing mountain passes in Europe. Definitely on the bucket list.
Anyway the week ended well. The antibiotics kicked in. Fever left Thursday and so did the sore throat. An easy day Friday. A leave pass for a 113km ride on Saturday. The rest had done me good. I climbing well and was happy to be riding my own pace considering the week my body had endured. I appreciated every minute of it. 5:10am start, 113kms, 4hrs 40 mins, 1600ms of climbing. A very good ride. 68 kgs and still on track with Alpine Classic program. By the way how good is the view from Kinglake?
