I love it when a plan comes together

You know those days when it all seems to be crumbling around you. Well four weeks ago I had one of those days. I had just found out from a local bike shop that my alloy road frame was irrepairably damaged and should be thrown out. The guy at the shop didn't have the heart to "charge a guy that just found out his frame was stuffed". The same day the clutch broke on the 1981 Gemini resulting in it being left on a street in Doncaster overnight only to be towed the next day. This was just days after blowing a rear rim on my PM Communte.  It was going to an expensive month.

Well I have good news. The Gemini got fixed. After three visits to three different bike shops I finally found someone who knew what they are doing.  I had the correct headset installed on the Giant TCR alloy road frame and now all is good.  A big thanks to the guys at Cycleworks Box Hill.  I will definately be back.   The highlight of this little scenario is the aquistion of a beautiful set of new Mavic Open Pro wheels with Shimano Ultegra 6600 hubs and DT Swiss Competition spokes. A big thanks to the Diesel himself for putting these together.  Mate they are smooth.  Thanks also to Phil Perkins for the gear and brake tune up.  Again Cycleworks helped me out big time getting the spokes I wanted at the right price (Vlad you are a good man).

So four rides later and I am ready to rave about the new wheelset.  The Open Pro rims are smooth.  A lot smoother than the Ksyrium Elite rims.  I had forgetten how quiet the Shimano hubs are.  After hitting Research Road and Warrandyte to Kangaroo Grounds they climb really well.  I know they are a bit heavier than the Ksyriums but I don't notice it.  I am wrapped.  I feel truly blessed to know that my daily commute which I really enjoy is the product of many helping hands.  As in the words of the A-Team 80's classic "I love it when a plan comes together."

  2. Fantastic mate. I'm so glad to hear they are going well. I had been thinking about those wheels the last couple of days and was curious to know how they were rolling. Good!
