Simply Single

Back on the single speed MTB yesterday after not touching the beast for 4 weeks.  I have changed the chain tensioner thanks to scabbing parts off my faithful mechanic - thanks Greg!  The last tensioner failed to keep the chain on the back sprocket as I was sprinting up a hill.  The sequence went like this: chain came off, leg shot forward, followed by my whole body weight lauching forward.  Result: tumbling on the tarmac in the middle of Chruch Road Templestowe.  Just skin lost and of course pride.  So yesterday's ride restored my faith in the old girl which will be my primary commuter through rain, hail and shine this winter.
This is a pretty soft week as a taper before the Marysville-Lake Mountain Challenge this Saturday.  I am looking forward to it as I have not climbed Lake Mountain before and only done limited riding around Marysville on fire trails a decade ago.  This is a 160km road ride - recreational but hoping for a race feel if a good group can be found for the first 120kms before the 20km climb up Lake Mountain.  Not sure what time I will do.  Anything around 6 hours has got to be reasonable.  Weather forcast is Sunny and 26 degrees.  Perfect!  I could be resting on my laurels a bit hoping my post Alpine Classic fitness will still hold.  We'll see.  Weight: 68kgs and have done more kms this Feb than same period last three years so feeling good.

  1. Good luck mate. It's a nice ride but look out for that first few k climbing up from Marysville. It's steep... like 15%ish sort of steep. Have fun!
